Since I have this blog already, I decided that I wanted to add a page that is updated a lot for writers. I like to write just as much as I like to draw!
So anyway I wanted to start off my page by saying that writing takes work. No body can be a great writer when they just quit when it gets hard. It takes time, time, time.
An example of what you can accomplish is this: I wrote a story for a kid's magazine called Stone Soup and it got in! Yay! So if you work hard, great things can happen.
I am writing a story called White Wolf. It's about the last white wolf on earth. I will post what I have here and please tell me what you think of it!
The White Wolf
By Megan
The
Great White Wolf Hunt
At
a time, white wolf pelts were greatly wanted by people in the
mountain ranges around the wolf packs. They would pay a lot of money
for one white wolf pelt and hunters could make the money that they
wanted just by killing a wolf. Many greedy men did so and the Great
White Wolf Hunt began.
Over
a period of time, the wolf packs began to lose their white wolves
until they saw no more. The packs began to wonder if another white
wolf would ever walk the earth again.
The
Hunt continued for 4 years. No white wolves ran the mountains or
valleys or any where. The Hunt had spread all across the globe and
not one white wolf was living…that we knew of.
CHAPTER
1
The
snow fell silently on the ground, coating the white traveler in a
blanket of cold flakes.
This
white traveler, a white wolf known as Toshiba, was searching for
any possible food. She and her brother, Shadow, had lived together as
loners. They had struggled to stay alive through the spring, then
summer, then fall and now winter. Shadow had fallen to the forces of
nature and Toshiba was forced to live on her own.
Toshiba
tilted her head back to the wind. She was straining for whatever
scent of prey she could find. She groaned when she scented nothing.
Toshiba moved to a bluff to try again. Nothing.
Not
far from where Toshiba stood, the leader of a wolf pack, a black wolf
named Tall, sniffed the air. He, too was searching for prey. His pack
had not eaten in many days.
Tall
turned to his rime-gray mate Silver. She was curled up tightly. She
was ready to give birth to her pups soon and needed food.
Tall’s
brother, Key, stood watching the snow fall with Tall’s older sons
Zap and Snap. Energy and Fury, two siblings who had joined the pack 4
months ago, lay side by side watching their leader. They were all
hungry.
Tall
groaned in despair. What would become of his pack?
Toshiba
could smell the pack dully and was worried of getting caught, but she
moved on. There had to be food in this territory.
She
wandered until she was close to the wolves. Tired and achy, Toshiba
curled up and closed her eyes. The fresh white snow around the wolf
made her blend easily in.
Toshiba
could not sleep, despite her attempts. Her stomach growled and she
knew there would be no rest if she had no food.
Toshiba
stood up and threw her head to the wind. From her mouth escaped an
anguished howl. The whole snowy forest stopped to listen, sharing
Toshiba’s hunger.
Tall's
ears snapped forward at the white wolf’s call. There was a wolf on
his territory. He tossed his head back to answer her. She did not
reply.
Tall
paced. With another adult wolf, the pack could survive. But he
realized this wolf was just as hungry. How would another starving
wolf help the pack?
Key
sat up and bristled. He looked to the south where the wolf was coming
from. He wanted to find this intruding wolf, to drive it away. He
looked at Tall and growled softly.
Tall
sighed. He could not decide what to do. Then he thought it would not
hurt to check her out. He called the hungry pack to their paws.
Toshiba
had dozed after her anguished song. She was very content to keep
dozing but she was rudely awakened. The sound of thudding paws awoke
her and she lifted up her head to see Tall and the pack charging her.
Springing
to her paws, the white wolf spun around and ran. She hoped that she
could out run them.
A
large gold and white wolf launched forward and landed on Toshiba’s
back. He stared into her eyes and started to snarl. But he stopped
and stared at her, his eyes glazed as if he was in a trance.
Tall
shoved the wolf, Energy, off Toshiba. He stopped to stare at her and
the same dazed look crossed his eyes. The whole pack was suddenly in
the trance. What was wrong?
Toshiba
was confused. Why did they stare at her like that? What had she done?
Was there something wrong with her?
Tall
had completely different questions racing through his mind. Why was
there a white wolf laying in front of him? He thought that the Great
White Wolf Hunt had killed every white wolf. Why was she here?
Tall
suddenly realized that this white wolf had no idea that she was the
last of her kind in the world. It was Tall’s duty to protect her.
With a soft whine, he invited her into the pack.
Toshiba
looked up at this black wolf who had offered to save her life. Would
she accept? She sighed then rose to her paws. The enchanted wolves
broke and began to sniff her. Most of them snarled.
Tall
allowed each wolf to sniff Toshiba then he led them off, this time
with Toshiba in tow. She ran behind a light gray female with a
wicked scar down her face. Toshiba knew instantly that this wolf was
to be feared. She kept a distance.
The
pack reached the winter birthing den. Here, they all approached
Toshiba and sniffed her again. They needed to know what she would be
good for. They all backed away, fur bristled.
Toshiba
knew the instant that she looked at these wolves that she was
different. All the other wolves were either gray or black or both.
She was pure white. It made her uncomfortable.
Tall
invited the pack to a game. They all played but Toshiba sat by a
rock. Why was she so different from her new family?
Toshiba
had been with her new pack for a week now. Hunting had gotten much
better and the wolves were always satisfied. Toshiba learned each
wolf’s name and personality during this good hunting time. She
learned that night black Key was very prideful and haughty. She knew
that both Tall and Silver were very excepting. Snap and Zap both were
very dominate and showed their teeth all the time. Energy and Fury
were wolves to turn away from. No one bothered them.
On
a bright, sunny morning when the snow was beginning to melt, Silver
had her pups. When she moved into the den, Tall sang and raced off.
The pack followed. They had to hunt so Silver would have plenty of
food. Toshiba, who rarely went on hunts, followed.
The
pack felled an old bull elk and feasted. Tall grabbed a large haunch
for Silver and began padding away. Energy and Fury followed at his
shoulder and Key followed at the back. Snap and Zap padded off with
their tails in the air. They were heading in the direction that the
herd of terrified elk ran. Toshiba, who was not very familiar with
this part of the territory, padded off to investigate.
Toshiba
climbed a rise and saw a river below. She walked down to it and
lapped up the cooling liquid. She was unaware of the wolf approaching
her from the back.
Snap
and Zap had tracked the white wolf to the rise. Snap turned and
padded back, but Zap did not. He made his way to the river and now
was sitting behind Toshiba.
When Toshiba turned around, she
yelped. She did not expect to see another wolf behind her. Her fur
lay flat when she saw it was Zap.
Zap flattened his ears. Wagging his
tail low to the ground, he came upon Toshiba. When he reached her, he
stood to his full height and grabbed her muzzle between his jaws. He
was saying, “I am your leader.” Then, with a swish of his tail,
he galloped away.
Toshiba blinked. Zap was a very
handsome wolf. He was being kind too. She followed him up the
embankment. He paused at the top to make sure she was following. Then
he affectionately rubbed his head on her cheek and dashed away.
Zap adored Toshiba. He had liked her
from the start. Sure she was white, but white was pretty and the wolf
had a good spirit. She could be his mate. Not only would that make
him happy, it would challenge his father's leadership. If she was his
mate, everything would go perfect.
Toshiba knew none of those thoughts,
but she knew he liked her. It was obvious. She lifted her tail and
lower her head and ruff. Then she approached the running gray wolf
and barked the alpha bark. He stopped.
The white wolf walked straight up to
him and nuzzled his face and cheeks. She licked his ears and his
chin. “You are my boss and a very good one.” she said with her
body.
What do you think??I liked it! I am still editing.
Anyway, I wrote another story for Stone Soup. It will be up sooner or later.
